Driftborn FAQ

There is currently no ETA for Driftborn, but we aim to deliver a playable demo in 2026.

Driftborn is a creature racing game where you play as a Whisp, a mysterious being that controls creatures like the Kryne, Haddix, Aetheron and more around the world. You will be able to race, breed, level, collect, and, once the open world gets added, do story quests with them. The main focus is racing, comparable to games like Mario Kart and Alicia Online.

The base game will have three creatures, each with unique abilities and playstyles. We cannot look into the future, but we do not exclude more species later. We prefer quality over quantity.

No, our team uses skilled artists to create our artwork, concepts and models. We do not, and never will-, use generative AI for our game(s).

Yes, you can both play as the creature and hide the Whisp, or play as the Whisp riding the creature. Other players will see this too.

The Whisp will have its own gear, clothing, and skins available. Above level 80, it can unlock a cool trail that can also be customized. You can also choose not to use these options and hide the Whisp.

Yes, you get to torment your friends.

Driftborn is and will be free to play with no pay-to-win features or paywalls. Micro-transactions and/or DLCs will focus on cosmetics or speeding up certain tasks that do not involve game-breaking advantages. We do have server costs and studio upkeep, and will need to cover those costs one way or another.

Not for a while. The Driftborn demo and early stages of the game will first focus on PC through Steam. Because this is our first commercial title, we want to fully optimize it for PC players before looking into other platforms like console, Switch, and mobile.
